Our Story
After graduating Rutgers University in 2011, PMBA CEO Jake Parisi was deeply concerned by the state of the American healthcare system. Following years of research, he realized that he could combine his legal and regulatory expertise, knowledge of healthcare pricing data and dogged negotiations strategy to provide relief to the millions of Americans suffering under the burden of immense medical debt.
In 2012, while living in Baltimore, Maryland, Jake founded Parisi Medical Billing Advocates (PMBA) with the goal of helping regular people navigate the expensive and often discouragingly complex American healthcare system. Over the next year, Jake spent countless hours up and down I-95 distributing thousands of business cards in dozens of hospital ERs.
Four years and hundreds of clients later, PMBA had saved families from bankruptcy, enabled patients to afford critical treatments and provided its services pro-bono to help patients diagnosed with cancer reduce their cost of care.
In 2017 PMBA expanded and moved its headquarters to New Jersey. At the same time, the company entered the commercial worker’s compensation market, immediately setting new standards of excellence in worker’s compensation healthcare cost containment. In the next three fiscal years, PMBA saved its self-funded clients an average of over 70% per repriced claim.
The insight we gained into the commercial group health market led us to confront the rapidly rising cost of member care facing self-funded employers. This spurred our creation of the revolutionary Plan Sponsor Protection (PSP) product. This remarkable product has already resulted in millions of dollars saved for our commercial clients.
Demand for PMBA’s services continues to grow. Labor unions, public entities, and self-funded private employers are all discovering the value that PSP provides. As healthcare’s legal and regulatory environment continues to evolve, PMBA leads the way, creating innovative new mechanisms that will redefine healthcare cost containment for decades to come.
PMBA’s goal remains the same today as it was at our inception: we believe healthcare should be equitable and affordable for everyone, whether for an individual trying to navigate the complexities of the healthcare system or a self-funded organization looking to reduce Plan costs.
